On the North of the Aysén Region, there lies the Commune of Lago Verde, made up by the Districts of Villa Amengual, Villa La Tapera, the settlements of Cisnes Medio and Alto Río Cisnes, and of course
Lago Verde, after which the entire commune that is part of the Palena-Queulat Basin has been named.
The town of Lago Verde has a very small population and is accessed from
La Junta through Route X-10 at the suspension bridge over the Rosselot River.
Lying on the frontier, this settlement is situated only 5 kilometers away from Las Pampas Pass, which leads to the
Republic of Argentina and is crossed only during certain months.
As it is the capital of the commune, the local municipality is based in the town of Lago Verde, which also has basic services such as water, electricity, telephone and sanitary station.
In the last few years, this area has been defined as a tourist destination par excellence as nature has provided it with a privileged micro climate and a wide range of contrasting sceneries ideal to practice adventure activities. Countless trails go across the commune and may be toured either on foot or on horseback towards very attractive landscapes.
Its flora covers the hillsides, the riverbanks and lake shores in shades of green. Its climate features ample temperature variations between the summer and the winter, when the weather is quite snowy.
Its hotel infrastructure is made up by very comfortable lodgings and camping sites, as adventure travel, eco-tourism and sport fishing have developed remarkably.
But this is also a rich commune faithful to its traditions. Every year in February, the people celebrate the Lago Verde Week with sport and recreational competitions and shows of
huaso skills. The regional cuisine with its typical dishes is also manifested in the various diners and restaurants.
The anniversary of the foundation of Lago Verde is celebrated in December. Typical dishes, fireworks and an important folkloric performance along with the contest to choose the best
tropero (cattle driver) are some of the most outstanding moments in the festival.
