Tours and Activities:
Elegant Table Settings and Delicious Dishes
Mónica Pons Eduardo EpifanioPuerto Varas is, in many ways, an enticing city which takes great care of the quality and flavor of its cuisine as well as the variety of ingredients it offers its most demanding diners.

Puerto Varas, known as The City of Roses, complements its outstanding geography with excellent service, especially in gastronomy. It welcomes visitors with the best restaurants where menus rely mainly on fish and seafood as well as traditional desserts, pies and tarts of European origin.
Cassis: A Stone’s Throw from Piedraplen
An elegant, two-story restaurant built entirely of thick logs, Cassis opens its doors very early in the morning and closes late in the evening. Its customers can enjoy different types of coffee or chocolate and pastries as well as salty dishes and chopps, draft beer, or a glass of good wine.
As the day was coming to an end, we went for a drink with friends. We sat under a parasol at a table on the second floor terrace overlooking Lake Llanquihue.
A look at the menu and the delicacies on the trays was enough to whet our appetite. A table next to ours had been served salmon ceviche, oysters Parmesan and shrimp brochettes, different types of bread and homemade bread sticks, while at another table nearby they were having pastries, the famous kuchen, berry crepes and cheesecake.

We chose an assortment: fried calamari rings with tartar sauce, prawns and garlic octopus, champignons sautéed in wine, breaded seafood, oysters, octopus, calamari and olives stuffed with Serrano ham, goat cheese and garlic mayonnaise. We savored every morsel as well as the draft beer and white wine.
Cassis first opened in Pucón and later in Puerto Varas where the menu and décor is especially appealing to the young.
Mirador del Lago, an Elegant Restaurant

Located on the top floor of Hotel del Lago with a breathtaking view of Lake Llanquihue, Mirador del Lago is open throughout the year offering excellent service. Booking a table for lunch or dinner guarantees a delightful moment, with a choice of first rate dishes and drinks. International chefs have expertly combined regional and German recipes, as our waiter kindly explained.
Our table, by a large window, gave us a wonderful view of the street lamps shining below. We sipped delicious pisco sours, like people do in Chile, while we decided what to order. For starters we chose beef carpaccio with capers, Parmesan cheese and quinoa as well as ginger oyster ceviche on asparagus and a salad.
Our main course consisted of venison, stewed in hand-crafted beer with pine nut sauce, rice and peppers sautéed in olive oil and breaded salmon, pesto fetuccine and grillé cornmeal sticks. We decided to take the sommelier’s advice on the best wine for our meal.

Having dessert was a must. We chose almond ice-cream with chestnuts and cognac raspberry sauce and tiramisú with mint vanilla sauce.
After a delicate liqueur, and thanking the waiter for his kindness, it was time to leave. Once again the lamps of the City of Roses lit our way back to the cabin.
