We asked about the activities and learned that the sail school has qualified trained staff and Olympic Optimist sailing-boats. The latter are chosen particularly to train young children, due to their ductility, safety and similarity to larger yachts, as far as maneuvers are concerned.
The members of the club know the wind and navigation paces according to the frequency of the waves. The club venue is the space they choose to share a drink and long chats. Besides, they have settled certain rules to regulate mutual respect and the protection of nature.
We went around the pier and its coquettish restaurant and bar. Made entirely of wood, its construction dates from the early twentieth century. Immersed in a water environment, it is open to visitors throughout the year. A big fireplace made us imagine the firewood burning in the winter and friends gathering around it.
We went sailing on board the boat called Colono in the company of seagulls coming from the sea, in nearby Puerto Montt. This tour let us admire the Yacht Club from the water and feel the breeze and the sunshine during a beautiful spring afternoon.
On our way back, a varied menu was awaiting us at La Cofradía Restaurant, where we would be indulged with delicious tapas, a wide array of main courses and a wine list. The dining-room area and a comfortable space with large windows invite customers to have a drink at Barlovento Bar in the summer.
It is well-known that Frutillar offers peace and culture not only to those who have chosen to settle down there, but also to tourists. And there is no doubt that sailing is another reason to pay a visit to this city.
